The local authority have teamed up with NHS Education for Scotland to create a new platform that details the social care jobs available in the country.
Findings show the social service workforce makes up 7.8% of all Scottish employment. With this statistic in mind, NHS Education for Scotland (NES) the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) have created a new digital tool that makes it easier for people to access information about new roles.

Known as ‘The Social Care Career Options Tool’, it works unlike any other online job platform. While services such as Indeed are useful in searching for employment, this tool, as well as offering new jobs to people searching, also provides opportunities for social care workers looking to advance their careers.
What’s more, the scheme offers role descriptions as well as true stories to give people a better understanding of what they’re signing up for.
‘I am very pleased that the Social Care Directorate in NES has had the opportunity to work in partnership with the SSC, and the wider social care sector in developing the Social Care Career Options Tool,’ Gordon Paterson, of NES said. ‘As well as being of benefit to both prospective and new recruits to social care, this important resource will aid providers in their efforts to address the recruitment and retention challenges facing the sector.’
To give context, problems including difficulty accessing relevant career information, confusion over role types and entry requirements are all currently acting as obstacles for individuals looking to pursue a care-related job.
Laura Lamb, SSSC director of workforce education and standards added that this new opportunity, of which more information can be accessed here, ‘will make it simpler than ever for people to find and develop their career in care.’
